How to celebrate 130 years…

Although we have only been here a few weeks, it doesn’t take long to appreciate how magnificent St. Hilda’s School is. On Wednesday the 19th of September, we were invited to the celebratory event to commemorate the 130th anniversary of St. Hilda’s School. In this article, we would like to tell you a little bit about it.

The day began with a round of speeches and hymns in the morning, before an orchestra was welcomed on stage. During this time, a harp even joined and performed a solo. As the musical notes drifted through the air, they seemed to cast a wave of serenity and peace over the audience. Afterwards, everyone gathered together outside for a school photo. The photographer, precariously balanced on a ladder on the roof, successfully managed to snap a photo of us all, after a lot of re-arrangement and “this way”, “that way”. I think it went well but I hope I didn’t blink! We found it was really exciting to be part of something so special and overall, we both really enjoyed the day and it made me reminisce back to the day we arrived. One thing that struck me instantly when I came to this school was not how absolutely lovely and majestic it is, but how welcoming the people are. I remember thinking that the students looked so happy to be back at school, as I witnessed some even skip into the assembly hall where the opening ceremony took place. Before any speeches began, the sound of laughter filled the hall and the place seemed to take on an aura of happiness. In that moment we couldn’t believe our luck that we would be working at such a fabulous school.

So thank you for continuing to be an amazing school, St. Hilda’s. We hope there are 130 years more to come and even more after that. ありがとうございます!
